Today is the official start of fall and a great time to visit (and buy real estate) in the Hudson Valley. New York’s Hudson Valley is for the gardeners, foodies, bikers and just plain ole’ hang outside in your yard lovers! What’s not to love about the rolling hills, quaint farmer’s markets, lovely boutiques and to-die-for restaurants? From Monte’s in Amenia to Manna Dew in Millerton eastern Dutchess County, in particular, is sprinkled with a variety of restaurants serving some of the finest food. I particularly love The Lantern Inn in Wassaic for dinner and the Farmer’s Wife in Ancram for breakfast. The Lantern is just a great place to unwind, meet friends, shoot a little pool or just enjoy the bonfire on a Friday or Saturday night. The food is great, the people are friendly, and the craft beers are a delight. Written up recently in the NY Times for great food – you have to try The Lantern Inn.
The Farmer’s Wife in Ancramdale is a friendly, down-home great place to meet for breakfast. I spent many a Saturday morning this summer stopping in for breakfast after berry picking with my wife and our dear friend, Jean, at Thompson-Finch Farm in Ancram. The food at The Farmer’s Wife is delish! The service is great and always a friendly, warm greeting when we came in. Not to say it doesn’t get busy in there because it does! I’m glad it’s busy and don’t mind in the least sometimes having to wait just a bit while they prepare my farm-fresh, made-to-order, food.
